Practical answer
Give every layer one task and one maintenance route
Use low-level orientation for paths, selective vertical light for recognition, restrained planting accents and separately controlled gathering scenes. Keep emitters out of normal sightlines and coordinate irrigation, drainage, cable joints and access before product selection.
Decision matrix
| Site condition | Specification response | Approval evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Primary path | Continuous orientation with shielded low-level light | Spacing study and glare section |
| Feature tree or wall | Selective narrow or asymmetric accent | Aiming plan and mock-up |
| Irrigated planting | Protected jointing and accessible drainage | Installation detail and ingress evidence |
Selection and verification workflow
- Classify circulation, rest and feature zones.
- Assign one visual task to each layer.
- Coordinate irrigation and civil details.
- Set curfew and reduced-output scenes.
- Review daytime appearance and night comfort.
Limits and responsibility boundaries
- More fixtures do not guarantee better legibility.
- Uplight requires spill and sky review.
- Buried joints need accessible, documented protection.
Evidence to request before approval
Treat a model name or brochure statement as a starting point. The offered construction and the supporting file must refer to the same configuration.
- Spacing or aiming study.
- Shielding and beam data.
- Ingress and cable-joint detail.
- Finish and irrigation compatibility statement.
- Cleaning and re-aiming access.
RFQ input checklist
A comparable quotation needs the same site inputs, document scope and commercial assumptions from every bidder.
- Country, city, site plan, application zones and current project stage.
- Fixture quantities, mounting details, voltage, CCT, beam and control requirements.
- Heat, dust, salt, water, irrigation, public-access and maintenance exposure.
- Datasheet, photometric file, drawing, material, finish and test-evidence requirements.
- Sample, mock-up, packing, spare-parts, delivery and warranty expectations.
